MUSCAT: Seeb maintained their lead in the Jindal Football League after returning from Sohar with a valuable 1-0 victory in their match at the Sohar Sports Complex, as part of Round 16.
Seeb entered the match with clear superiority and early attacking intent, and they succeeded in turning that advantage into the opening goal in the 13th minute through defender Ahmed al Khamisi, who headed home a set-piece delivered by Ali al Busaidy, before VAR confirmed the validity of the goal. Al Seeb continued their attacking pressure afterwards and created several clear chances, but the brilliance of Sohar goalkeeper Magdy Shaaban denied them a second goal, while the home side tried to work their way back into the game without enough attacking effectiveness.
Sohar had a chance through Al Mutasim al Muqbali in his first appearance, specifically in the 36th minute from the right side, but Seeb’s defence dealt with it well. Seeb were also in a strong position to add a second goal, but rashness and poor finishing led to missed opportunities. Sohar, too, could have snatched an equaliser in stoppage time of the first half, but their attacking line lacked its usual energy and sharpness, leaving Al Seeb to head into the break with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Sohar raised the intensity of their attempts in search of an equaliser, benefiting from substitutions that gave the team more energy in the final third. However, Seeb handled the match with experience, absorbing the pressure and protecting their lead until the final whistle. Sohar’s task became even more difficult after substitute Saleem al Shabibi was sent off in the 78th minute.
With this win, Seeb raised their tally to 41 points at the top of the table, while Sohar remained on 30 points in fourth place.
IBRI EDGE AL KHABOURAH
Ibri managed to beat Al Khabourah 3-2 in the match that brought the two teams together at Al Rustaq Sports Complex.
Ibri’s three goals were scored by Loic Paul, Wael al Shandoudi and Bissan Jacques, while Said al Abdulsalam netted both goals for Al Khabourah. The win lifted Ibri to 13 points in 13th place, while the defeat left Al Khabourah stuck on 14 points in 11th.
GOALLESS DRAW SETTLES SUR AND SAMAYIL CLASH
A goalless draw settled the meeting between Sur and Samayil at Nizwa Sports Complex after a match marked by balance and defensive discipline from both sides, with a slight edge in possession and exchanged attempts that lacked real finishing quality in front of goal. Samayil moved up to 15 points in ninth place, while Sur reached 13 points in 12th place.
