Presenting the Sultanate of Oman's perspective on current events and developments, and emphasising the necessity of halting military operations as a top priority for restoring security and stability in the region, were among the key points discussed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, during his meeting in Muscat with the ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited to the Sultanate of Oman.
This meeting took place within the framework of diplomatic efforts to address the challenges of the ongoing war in the region and its repercussions.
Meanwhile, the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) responded to a report after a Maltese-flagged cargo ship came under shelling by two missiles near the Strait of Hormuz.
The ship’s 24-strong crew was rescued and provided with necessary medical care, and they are all in good condition.
In another development, Türkiye said that Nato air defences destroyed a ballistic missile fired from Iran as it headed into Turkish airspace on Wednesday, marking the first time the alliance member has been drawn into the expanding Middle East conflict.
It was unclear where the missile was headed, but a Nato spokesperson said the trans-Atlantic defence bloc condemned Iran's targeting of Türkiye and that it stood firmly with all allies.
The Turkish defence ministry said the missile had passed over Iraq and Syria before it was downed by Nato air and missile defence systems stationed in the eastern Mediterranean.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told his Qatari counterpart Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani that Iranian missile attacks were directed at US interests and not at Qatar.
Qatar's top diplomat 'categorically rejected' that claim and called for an immediate halt to Iran's attacks, the Qatari foreign ministry said.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani said his country would confront any aggression with its 'right to self-defence,' stressing that Doha has always been inclined towards dialogue and diplomacy conducted in good faith.
Iran's official IRNA news agency said that US-Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,000 people nationwide since Saturday.
'During the military aggression... 1,045 of our dear military personnel and civilians' were killed, IRNA said, citing a statement from Iran's Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs. - Agencies
