Izki edge Al Khabourah to emerge U17 champions

MUSCAT: Izki were crowned champions of the Under-17 Football League on Saturday evening after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Al Khabourah in the final held at Al Rustaq Sports Complex. The decisive encounter was played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, reflecting the continued growth and competitiveness of youth football competitions in the Sultanate of Oman.
The final began at a high tempo, with Al Khabourah asserting early attacking pressure and pushing forward in search of an opening goal. Utilising quick transitions and effective wing play, Al Khabourah created several dangerous opportunities in the opening stages. However, Izki’s goalkeeper delivered a standout performance, producing a series of crucial saves to keep his side level during critical moments of the first half.
As the match progressed, Izki gradually regained composure, tightening their defensive organisation while relying on swift counter-attacks to trouble Al Khabourah’s backline, the contest became evenly balanced in midfield, characterised by tactical discipline and defensive caution from both teams.

The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when Rakan al Jabri capitalised on a well constructed attacking move, finishing clinically to give Izki a 1–0 lead just before half-time. The goal shifted the momentum in Izki’s favour as they entered the break with a slender advantage.
In the second half, Izki returned with renewed confidence, maintaining pressure and benefiting psychologically from their late first half goal, Al Khabourah, meanwhile, appeared momentarily affected but soon responded through tactical adjustments by their coach, who introduced attacking substitutions to regain control and intensify pressure in the final third.
AL MUSANNAH FINISH THIRD
Al Khabourah improved steadily as the match approached its closing stages, increasing their offensive presence and committing more players forward in pursuit of an equaliser. Five minutes of stoppage time were added, during which Al Khabourah launched persistent attacks. Nevertheless, Izki disciplined defensive structure and composed game management ensured that the scoreline remained unchanged.
The final whistle confirmed Izki 1–0 triumph and their well-deserved coronation as Under-17 League champions, the title reflects the team’s consistent performances throughout the competition, highlighted by attacking efficiency and defensive solidity in decisive moments.
Earlier that day, in the third place playoff, Al Musannah secured the bronze medal with a 3–1 victory over Al Ittihad. Al Musannah’s goals came via an own goal, Ghith al Alawi and Mohammed al Maamari, while Majid Raddad Farajallah scored Al Ittihad’s lone goal, concluding the tournament on a competitive and spirited note.
