Oman Club strengthened their grip on the First Division Handball League (2025-26) second round finals, climbing to the top of the standings, while Muscat reignited the title race with a commanding victory over Nizwa, setting the stage for an intense third round.
At the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex main hall in Bausher, defending champions Oman Club edged Seeb 28–25 in a highly competitive clash marked by tactical discipline and physical intensity.
The first half unfolded evenly, with both sides exchanging goals through swift, well-structured attacks. Oman Club narrowly led 14–13 at half-time, reflecting the tight contest.
In the second half, Seeb pushed hard to level the score, capitalising on fast breaks and wing play. However, Oman’s experience proved decisive in crucial moments. Their composed defensive organisation and efficient finishing allowed them to extend their advantage in the closing minutes and secure a deserved 28–25 victory.
The win lifted Oman Club to four points, underlining their determination to retain the title and maintain momentum in the final stage.
MUSCAT RESPOND IN STYLE
In the second fixture, Muscat bounced back from their opening defeat with an emphatic 33–23 win over Nizwa.
Muscat led 16–14 at half-time in a competitive first period where Nizwa showed resilience and defensive discipline. However, Nizwa’s performance dipped in the second half, while Muscat capitalised on their squad depth and experience to widen the gap and comfortably seal the match.
The result earned Muscat their first two points of the round, while Nizwa suffered a second consecutive defeat, having previously lost to Seeb.
CRUCIAL ROUND AHEAD
Round three will take place on Friday, with Oman Club facing Nizwa, followed by Muscat against Seeb, both at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
In the first round, Oman topped the standings with 14 points, followed by Seeb (10), while Muscat and Nizwa collected eight points each. Majees, Al Shabab, Sohar and Salalah failed to reach the second round.
The second phase follows a two-leg round robin format among the top four teams. The league leader advances directly to the final, while the second and third-placed teams meet in a single playoff, with the winner advancing to face the table topper for the championship title, making every point in this stage crucial in the race for glory.
