The National Museum held a media briefing on Tuesday at Bait Al Gheriza to review its achievements for 2025 and outline key upcoming projects, in the presence of representatives of local media.
Jamal bin Hassan al Mousawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, highlighted the pivotal role undertaken by the museum as a heritage and cultural landmark reflecting Omani national identity. He noted that during 2025, the museum completed a series of achievements that strengthened its position as an effective bridge for cultural and museum-based communication between the Sultanate of Oman and various local, regional, and international institutions.
He stated that the National Museum received approximately 39 official visits during 2025, including several high-level delegations.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the museum, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Russian Federation, organised a celebration marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which included an exhibition of historical photographs and the launch of the Russian 'Musical Seasons.' During the same year, the 'Omani-Japanese Relations Corner' was opened, and the documentary film 'Madera' was launched in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Tokyo.
Al Mousawi noted that the museum received several high-level official visits during the year, including General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, and Emine Erdoğan, Spouse of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, in addition to ministers and senior officials from friendly and partner countries.
On the international front, the museum continued strengthening its cultural diplomacy through the Oman Hall at the Nairobi National Museum (March 2023–March 2028) and the Oman Hall at the State Hermitage Museum (December 2023–January 2025). It also participated in the Islamic Arts Biennale in Saudi Arabia, contributed artefacts to Louvre Abu Dhabi, and organised the exhibition “Splendour of Silver: Treasures from the Omani Court” in Belarus.
Locally, the museum hosted several international exhibitions, including “DIVA! Italian Glamour in Fashion Jewellery,” “Masterpieces from the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation,” and exhibitions under the Hermitage Corner initiative, alongside other cultural showcases.
The museum was recognised for the second consecutive year as one of the best service outlets in Muscat Governorate under the Institutional Excellence framework. Digital services were enhanced through the launch of an audio guide in Arabic and English, with accessible options for people with disabilities.
