SQU Council approves Alumni Association regulations and direct student admission

Muscat: The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Council held its second meeting for the 2025-2026 academic year at the University Council Meeting Hall, on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Madiha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the University Council, and attended by HH Sayyid Dr Fahad bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University and Deputy Chairman of the University Council.
The council reviewed the latest developments in various aspects of university operations and the implementation status of decisions and recommendations made in previous meetings, emphasizing the importance of following up on implementation according to plans.
In a bid to strengthen the university’s mission and build bridges of communication with its graduates, thereby supporting sustainable partnerships and serving its educational and research objectives, the council approved the regulations governing the Sultan Qaboos University Alumni Association.
The council also approved direct admission to the Colleges of Engineering, College of Science, College of Arts and Social Sciences. The aim is to enable students to directly enroll in their desired specializations upon entering the university and will develop admission policies to enhance the quality of the educational process. The council approved the target number of students admitted to undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The council commended efforts made in various fields, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the university’s plans and monitoring their implementation to achieve its academic and professional goals.
