Oman affirms solidarity with Kuwait, supports its sovereignty over maritime areas

Muscat: The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, has said that it has followed with great interest what was contained in the lists of coordinates and the map submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, regarding the encroachment on the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait over its maritime areas and its fixed and stable water elevations.

The Ministry affirmed the solidarity of the Sultanate of Oman with the State of Kuwait regarding its sovereignty over all its maritime areas and water elevations, and calls on the Republic of Iraq to take into consideration the course of its historical and fraternal relations with the State of Kuwait and the principles of good neighborliness, and the rules of international law, in addition to what is stipulated in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982, in a manner consistent with the understandings and agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded bilaterally between the two brotherly countries.
