MUSCAT, FEB 22
Defending champions Oman Club began their second round campaign in the Oman First Division Handball League (2025/2026 season) with a hard-fought 23–21 victory over Muscat Club at the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.
The encounter lived up to expectations, delivering a closely contested and high-intensity battle from the opening whistle. Both sides exchanged the lead over the two halves, reflecting the narrow gap in technical quality and physical readiness. The tactical approach was evident, with both coaches relying on compact defensive systems and swift counterattacks, which gave the match a disciplined and strategic rhythm.
The closing minutes proved decisive, as Oman capitalised on their experience in crucial moments. With the score finely balanced, the defending champions showed composure, reduced unforced errors and converted key attacking opportunities to secure a two-goal margin. The win earned Oman two valuable points at the start of this decisive stage, underlining their determination to retain the title.
In the other fixture of the round, Seeb Club registered a deserved 27–22 victory over Nizwa, in a match also held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Seeb imposed their authority from the first half, benefiting from organised defensive play and an impressive performance by their goalkeeper. The team gradually extended their advantage in the second half.
Although Nizwa attempted to fight back and close the gap, Seeb’s experience and effective game management ensured they maintained control until the final whistle, collecting two important points to strengthen their position in the standings.
Second-round action continues on Tuesday, with Nizwa facing Muscat, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Oman and Seeb, both at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. These fixtures are expected to further shape the race for top spot in the decisive phase of the league.
At the end of the first round, Oman topped the standings with 14 points, followed by Seeb with 10, Muscat in third with eight, and Nizwa fourth with the same tally. Majees, Al Shabab, Saham and Salalah failed to qualify for the second round after finishing fifth to eighth respectively.
The second round is being played in a home-and-away league format among the top four teams. The side finishing first will advance directly to the final, while the second- and third-placed teams will contest a playoff match, with the winner earning the right to face the league leaders in a decisive final to determine the champion.
