MUSCAT: The Oman Handball Federation has reaffirmed its strong administrative and officiating presence on the regional stage after nominating Ayad bin Salim al Shanfari, Board Member of the Federation, to serve on the Technical Committee of the 42nd GCC Clubs Cup Winners’ Handball Championship, scheduled to take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain from March 23 to April 4.
The nomination reflects the growing recognition of Omani expertise in Gulf competitions and highlights the trust placed in national cadres at both technical and administrative levels.
Oman Club will represent the Sultanate of Oman in the championship as winners of the First Division League and the Ministry Shield for the 2024/2025 season. The team will be aiming for a strong showing in this prestigious regional tournament. The previous edition of the championship was hosted in Muscat by Oman Club, with Al Arabi of Qatar lifting the title.
In addition, the Federation has nominated Bashir bin Al Dhib al Busaidy as technical delegate for the tournament. Continental referees Sultan al Siyabi and Salem al Siyabi have also been appointed to officiate several matches during the competition, further underlining the Gulf-wide confidence in Omani refereeing standards.
The championship is expected to feature leading Gulf clubs, including Oman Club, defending champions Al Arabi (Qatar), Al Rayyan (Qatar), Kuwait SC, Al Ahli (Bahrain), as well as a representative from the United Arab Emirates, another Bahraini club, and a Saudi club to be confirmed.
The GCC Clubs Cup Winners’ Championship holds significant stature within Gulf handball circles due to the intensity of competition and its long-standing role in showcasing top talents. It also serves as a vital platform for technical exchange and professional development for clubs, administrators and match officials across the region.
Oman’s representation in both competitive and administrative capacities once again underscores the structured efforts of the Oman Handball Federation in strengthening its regional and continental presence.
