MUSCAT: Oman’s leading sprinter Ali bin Anwar al Balushi completed a highly successful European indoor season and now will turn his full focus towards the World Athletics Indoor Championships which is scheduled to take place in Poland from March 20 to 22.
Al Balushi delivered a series of impressive performances across elite indoor competitions in Europe over the 60 metres, recording personal bests and multiple podium finishes that highlight his rapid technical development and growing stature on the international athletics stage.
The Muscat-based sprinter concluded his European tour with a strong performance at the Karlsruhe Indoor Meeting in Germany, part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series, where he secured second place after clocking 6.54 seconds in the final, having posted 6.58 seconds in the semifinal.
Earlier, Al Balushi claimed a gold-medal finish at the Madrid Indoor Meeting in Spain, another World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event. He advanced from the semifinals with a time of 6.55 seconds before powering to victory in the final in 6.53 seconds, confirming his readiness to compete at the highest level.
SOLID SHOW
His European campaign also featured solid showings in Silver-level events. At the Bauhaus Indoor Meeting in Sweden, Al Balushi finished fifth in the final with a time of 6.60 seconds after running 6.62 seconds in the semifinals. He produced one of his standout performances at the Paris Indoor Meeting in France, where he captured first place in the final with an impressive 6.52 seconds, following a 6.60-second run in the semifinals.
Maintaining his consistency, Al Balushi went on to claim second place at the Miramas Indoor Meeting in France, another World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver event. He clocked 6.63 seconds in the semifinals before improving to 6.58 seconds in the final, underlining his ability to sustain top-level performance across successive competitions.
These European events formed a crucial phase in Al Balushi’s preparations for the global championships. Following his return to Oman, the sprinter is set to embark on a further overseas training programme in Germany and Türkiye during March 4 to 17 as part of the final stages of his build-up to the World Indoor Championships.
Al Balushi’s results reflect steady progression and competitive confidence, reinforcing his readiness to challenge the world’s elite in Poland. The Oman Athletics Association (OAA) will continue to play a central role in supporting his development by providing high-level training environments, international competition exposure and comprehensive preparation programmes. The association reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling pathway not only for Al Balushi but also for other national athletes across track and field disciplines.
