MUSCAT: The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs celebrated on Sunday the honouring of the winners in the inaugural edition of the 'Fastamsik' Quran Memorisation Competition.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council.
The competition was organised under the supervision of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and sponsored by the Shaikh Mustahail bin Ahmed al Maashani Private Endowment Foundation.
Participants competed in two main branches for males and females across two levels: the first level involved the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran along with the interpretation of Surat Al Baqarah, while the second level focused on the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran.
The competition aimed to enhance care for the Holy Quran through memorisation, recitation and reflection, while fostering a spirit of honourable faith-based competition. It also sought to honour distinguished memorisers, support Quranic schools, qualify participants for local and international competitions, and highlight the efforts of endowment institutions in serving the Holy Quran.
The event saw broad community engagement with 347 participants, consisting of 176 males and 171 females. The ceremony featured a visual presentation about the competition and the launch of the 'Itqan' programme for qualifying contestants. At the conclusion of the event, the patron of the ceremony honoured the winners. — ONA
