Muscat: Sohar Club continued their positive run in the Jindal Football League with a deserved 2–0 victory over Saham Club at the Sohar Sports Complex in Round 12 action.
Sohar made a flying start, applying early attacking pressure and stunning their opponents with a goal after just one minute. Professional forward Owen Atikor capitalised on a precise pass from Mazin al Saadi inside the box and fired home amid defensive confusion to beat goalkeeper Muhannad al Maamari.
Saham tried to respond quickly and thought they had equalised through a well-worked move finished by their foreign striker, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The first half saw both teams spread play through the wings, while Saham were dealt a setback after Mohammed Bahlouli left the pitch injured. Meanwhile, Sohar’s defence remained compact, closing down spaces and neutralising the threat of Mohsin Jawhar and his teammates to head into the break leading 1–0.
The tempo increased after half-time as Saham pushed hard for an equaliser and created several chances, but poor finishing denied them. Sohar relied on disciplined defending and quick counter-attacks, exploiting the spaces left behind. Their efforts paid off late in the game when Idris al Maqbali sealed the win in the 88th minute, finishing off a precise assist from Abdullah al Balushi to confirm the two-goal triumph.
The victory lifted Sohar to 25 points in third place, level with Al Nahda Club, while Saham remained on 16 points in seventh.
AL KHABOURAH EARN KEY WIN
Elsewhere, Al Khabourah Club claimed an important 2–0 away win over Al Rustaq Club at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex. Al Khabourah looked more organised and clinical, with Darwish al Saadi opening the scoring before Yan Hermes Mokombo added a second to secure all three points. The result moved Al Khabourah up to ninth place with 13 points, while Al Rustaq stayed at the bottom with four.
At the Sur Sports Complex, Oman Club and Sur Club played out a goalless draw in a cautious encounter with few clear chances. Oman Club moved to 15 points in eighth place, while Sur reached eight points in 12th.
AL NASR CLIMB TO FOURTH
Al Nasr Club secured an important 1–0 victory over Samayil Club in their match at the Nizwa Sports Complex.
Abdulfadhel Saonina scored the only goal of the game, earning Al Nasr three valuable points and lifting their tally to 25 points, putting them in fourth place. Meanwhile, Samayil remained on 11 points in 11th position.
