SQU, Hong Kong University explore academic, research collaboration

MUSCAT: A high-level delegation from the Education University of Hong Kong, led by its President Prof John Lee Chi-Kin, visited Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Monday to strengthen academic ties and explore avenues for collaboration.
The delegation was received by HH Sayyid Dr Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of SQU, in the presence of deans, academics and university officials.
Welcoming the delegation, His Highness the Vice-Chancellor presented an overview of SQU, tracing its historical development and its national role in higher education. He highlighted the University’s contribution to promoting and preserving Omani culture, alongside its academic growth and expanding research profile.
His Highness outlined SQU’s academic structure, including its colleges and research centres, and reviewed key milestones in its institutional journey. He also pointed to the University’s performance in international rankings, as well as the achievements of several colleges in global assessments.
Emphasising SQU’s global outlook, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the University’s ongoing research initiatives, student exchange programmes and memoranda of understanding with universities and research institutions worldwide. He reaffirmed SQU’s commitment to broadening international cooperation and building new academic partnerships.
For his part, Prof John Lee Chi-Kin stressed the importance of linking education with cultural sustainability. He noted that education plays a vital role in shaping identity and safeguarding cultural values, underscoring the relevance of cross-cultural academic engagement.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing interest in identifying areas of mutual benefit and exploring opportunities for joint projects, academic exchange and future collaboration.
