MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) is set to unveil the sports teams that will represent the Sultanate of Oman at the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games which is scheduled to take place in China from April 22 to 30. The decision will be made during an OOC board meeting scheduled for early next week at the committee’s headquarters in Muscat.
According to reliable sources, seven sports teams have submitted their nominations to the High-Performance Sports and Olympic Planning Committee, which reviewed the applications recently and will submit its recommendations to the OOC board for final approval.
The nominated teams represent a range of national sports associations and committees, including athletics, volleyball, handball, football, triathlon, sailing and marathon swimming. Based on technical evaluations and established selection criteria, it is expected that five teams likely will ultimately be approved to compete in the continental event.
Among the strongest contenders is Oman’s beach soccer team, which has consistently delivered impressive results at the Asian level. The team secured a silver medal at the previous edition of the Asian Beach Games in Vietnam and finished runners-up at the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025. Oman had reached the final before falling to Iran in the title match at the Jomtien Beach Arena, underlining its status as one of Asia’s leading beach soccer nations.
Oman’s beach volleyball team is also expected to feature prominently in the Games, following a series of outstanding regional achievements. In September last year, the team had claimed the men’s title at the West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship Muscat 2025, which was held in the Omani capital. That success came just one week after securing gold at the Arab Beach Volleyball Championship, marking a historic back-to-back regional triumph for the Sultanate of Oman.
Oman beach handball is another strong team for the Asian Games. Oman had blanked Iran 2-0 in the final summit clash of the 10th edition of AHF Asian Beach Handball Championship which concluded in Muscat in May last year in Muscat. Oman team players had lifted the title after 21 years from the first title which they won in 2004.
Oman team will vie also at the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships which will take place next year in Morocco.
