Oman U14 tennis team begins Asian campaign

Muscat: Oman’s national under-14 tennis team begins its participation on Tuesday in the Asian U14 Tennis Championship, hosted by Bahrain from February 3 to 13, with wide participation from Asian national teams. The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the West and Central Asia regions and is organised by the International Tennis Federation in cooperation with the Asian Tennis Federation.
The national team aims to collect more ranking points through this participation while gaining valuable technical and competitive experience, especially as the tournament features a strong field of players with solid international rankings.
The championship consist of two separate tournaments. The first begins on February 3 and concludes on February 7, while the second will run from February 9 to 13.
The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) previously hosted this championship at the tennis courts of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher in recent years. The event is considered one of the most important age-group tournaments prioritised by the International Tennis Federation to develop young talents, particularly in the U14 category.
Participating nations include Oman, host Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the UAE and Yemen. Matches will be held at the Bahrain Tennis Club courts.
The Omani delegation includes Sara al Balushi as head of delegation, coach Mohammed al Falahi and players Mundher al Amri, Emad al Rahbi, Taliya al Busaidy and Reema al Hashmi.
Coach Mohammed bin Rashid al Falahi stated that the team is fully prepared for the competition, describing the championship as one of the most significant events for the U14 squad. He emphasised that it provides players with valuable experience while offering the opportunity to earn ranking points, adding that such tournaments greatly contribute to improving player performance.
He added that the players are determined to achieve positive results, noting that the presence of two tournaments gives everyone a chance to recover and earn more points. He expressed confidence in the promising group of players and thanked the OTA for its continued support, wishing the team success in the competition.
