Public Prosecution: Crimes related to Labour Law most frequent in Oman

The Public Prosecution is having its annual conference on Monday to review the statistics and indicators related to its performance in 2025.
The Public Prosecution recorded 55,164 cases in 2025, a 19 percent increase compared to 2024, with a 13.7 percent increase in felonies and a 19.6 percent increase in misdemeanors.
These cases were distributed as follows: 52,553 misdemeanors, 2,593 felonies, and 18 other cases, including violations, administrative complaints, and incidents, with a completion rate of 98.4 percent.
73,391 defendants registered in cases during 2025, a 24.7 percent increase compared to 2024.
Males comprised 89.2 percent of defendants, juveniles 1.6 percent, and foreigners 47.5 percent.
The Governorate of Muscat had the highest number of cases received, with 23,748 cases, followed by North al Batinah with 10,744 cases, and Dhofar with 6,179 cases.
The Royal Oman Police topped the list of entities reporting cases with 38,270 reports, followed by the Ministry of Labor with 9,198 reports, then the Public Prosecution's electronic services portal with 3,996 reports, the Consumer Protection Authority with 2,719 reports, and the Ministry of Commerce and Investment Promotion (MOCIP) with 240 reports.
Crimes related to the Labour Law are the most frequent, with 22,309, followed by crimes related to bounced cheques with 10,482, and crimes related to the Foreigners' Residence Law with 9,493.
The number of cases received electronically reached 54,276, an increase of 19.2 percent compared to 2024.
Murder cases in the Sultanate of Oman reached 12 in 2025.
The Public Prosecution achieved a rate of 82 percent in the Government Digital Transformation Index, recording an increase of 3 percent.
307,375 judicial orders were issued, an increase of 17.5 percent compared to 2024, while investigation reports decreased by 4.8 percent to reach 79,266, and requests for customer service witnessed a remarkable growth of 133.6 percent, and achieved an completion rate of 89.5 percent, and the total number of judgments increased to 22,423 judgments by 4.7 percent, distributed between 19,176 executed judgments and 3,247 non-executed judgments.

No external factor behind the Amerat family tragedy
The Public Prosecution investigations did not establish any direct responsibility on any person or entity in the incident where an Omani family of six was found dead in Amerat in November.
