MUSCAT: The Omani Association for the Care of the Holy Quran held its annual ceremony under the auspices of Shaikh Salem bin Mustahil al Mashani, Adviser at the Royal Court.
In his address, Dr Khalid bin Salim al Siyabi, Vice-Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, underscored the community’s enduring need for the Holy Quran and highlighted the role of specialised associations in institutionalising Quranic work. He outlined the Association’s expansion plans to reach all segments of society and stressed the importance of integration between official, private and charitable sectors.
The ceremony featured the announcement of winners of the third edition of the ‘Most Beautiful Recitation’ competition.
In the first category (7–12 years), Muhammad bin Sultan Al Rashidi secured first place, followed by Salem bin Saeed Al Thani, Hussam bin Hamad al Siyabi, Muhammad bin Sulaiman al Kharousi, and Al Khalil bin Ahmed al Siyabi.
In the second category (13–18 years), Muhammad Ali Muhammad won first place, followed by Ahmed bin Nasser al Sabri, Salem bin Abdullah al Shukaili, Salem bin Juma, and Abdulrahman bin Rashid al Mahfoudhi.
In the third category (19–25 years), Azzan bin Saif al Qanubi took first place, followed by Ezz al Din Dawood bin Haider al Mushrafi, Hamza bin Ahmed Al Issai, Abdul Rahman bin Khalfan al Farraji, and Sekou Amadou Kane.
In the fourth category for the blind and persons with disabilities, first place went to Abdulaziz bin Badr al Sinani, followed by Faris bin Ahmed al Farqani, Ali bin Khalid al Amri, Al Azwar bin Yaqoub al Batashi, and Nibras bin Suleiman al Kassabi.
The event also saw the announcement of results of the fourth edition of the ‘Excellence Standards’ competition among Quranic centres. The top five centres were Saham Quranic Centre (first), Ibri Quranic Centre (second), Samail Quranic Centre (third), Seeb Quranic Centre (fourth), and Salalah Quranic Centre (fifth).
A visual presentation introduced the first edition of the ‘Qualification of Teachers of the Holy Quran and its Sciences’ programme, detailing its objectives, curriculum, teaching staff and methodology.
On behalf of the graduates, Ghalib bin Salem al Abdali spoke about the programme’s significance, highlighting its blend of theoretical and practical learning, as well as its use of technology.
The ceremony concluded with the honouring of female teachers who fulfilled the requirements for teaching recitation and attained an unbroken chain of transmission, as well as all female participants in the programme’s inaugural edition. — ONA
