Kiely clinches OIDC Round 2 honours

Muscat: Irish drifter Tommy Kiely claimed the top honours in the second round of the Oman International Drift Championship (OIDC) 2026 at the weekend. Compatriot Conor Shanahan took second spot while Abdulla Hamada of Jordan finished third at the Muscat Drift Arena.
Kiely, who finished second in the first round, now leads the standings for the overall championship ahead of the third and concluding round on February 5 and 6.
In the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) category, Abdulla Hamada came on top followed by Khalifa al Falasi of the United Arab Emirates in second and Dany Neville of Lebanon in third position.
In the national category, Haitham al Hadidi took the top spot beating Round 1 topper Ahmed al Amri into second while Tariq al Shaihani claimed third spot. Adrienne Wheatley of Ireland bagged the Ladies Cup for the second round.
The Oman Automobile Association organised OIDC 2026 completed the second round in front of a packed house as 54 drifters entered the qualifying round on January 29 at the Muscat Drift Arena.
Round One winner Ahmed Daham of Jordan, Dutch drifters Sebastian Fontijn and Clint van Oort, former champion Ali Makseed of Kuwait, Benediktas Cirba of Lithuania and Nasser al Harbali were all among those who made it to the Top 32 after the qualifying hurdle.
Tommy Kiely, Conor Shanahan, Abdullah Hamada, Sebastian Fontijn, Jack Shanahan, Nasser al Harbali, Robert Babagulian and Khalifa al Falasi made it to the Top 8.
Kiely, Conor, Hamada and Fontijn progressed to the Top 4. Kiely and Conor set up the final battle in which Kiely triumphed to take the title.
OAA Managing Director Suleiman al Rawahi gave away the trophies to the top-three winners in the different categories.
FOUR OMANIS IN TOP 32
Four Omanis – Ahmed al Amri, Haitham al Hadidi, Riyad al Mabsli and Tariq al Shaihani – qualified for the Top 32. Seven local drifters vied in the qualifying for the second round including Haitham al Hadidi, Ali al Shaihani, Waqqas al Saud, Ali al Balushi, Tariq al Shaihani, Ahmed al Amri and Sultan al Balushi.
The first day of the championship on January 28, was dedicated to qualifying rounds, where drivers competed to secure their positions in the finals. The day two (January 29), featured the Top 32 battles, followed by Top 16, Top 8, with the final head-to-head Twin Drift battles as motorsport fans enjoyed the high-adrenaline competition held as part of Muscat Nights Festival.
The event is being organised by the OAA under the chairmanship of Brigadier Jamal bin Said al Tai, managing director Sulaiman al Rawahi and race director Fahmi al Busaidy. Shell is the main sponsor.
The event was supported by comprehensive logistical preparations and world-class spectator facilities, ensuring an exceptional experience for the large crowds that flocked to the OAA facility.
