Al Hoota Cave, the second largest cave in the Sultanate of Oman after Majlis Al Jinn Cave in the Wilayat of Qurayat, is embarking on a new phase of comprehensive development and was visited by more than 55,000 visitors in 2025. The recently opened Adventure Park, a valuable addition to attracting visitors to the cave, has also introduced electric vehicles to transport visitors to explore the various features of Al Hoota Cave.
Ibrahim bin Said al Wahaibi, Director of Al Hoota Cave Company, said: “Our vision stems from the exceptional value of Al Hoota Cave as one of the most prominent natural landmarks not only locally but also regionally and internationally. Therefore, the development plan aims to transform the site into an integrated tourist destination that combines scientific exploration with family entertainment. We strive to create a rich experience that targets all age groups and caters to diverse interests, while preserving the unique geological character of the area.” He added that preserving the cave’s ecosystems and natural beauty is the main focus in all development plans. The addition of activities such as adventure tourism and ropes courses was based on meticulous studies to ensure these facilities integrate with the surrounding environment without compromising the integrity of the geological formations. He stressed that Al Hoota Cave has witnessed remarkable growth in visitor numbers, recording an impressive 44,000 visitors in 2024. Thanks to development and promotional efforts, the number crossed 55,000 in 2025 which reflects the increasing confidence in the site as a preferred destination.
He noted that the development projects involve multiple phases, including technical studies, planning, implementation and evaluation, to ensure the highest quality standards. He added that work is proceeding according to schedule and financial details and the final timeline for the remaining facilities will be announced in due course upon completion of the current phases, in a manner that serves the best interests of the project and the public. He pointed out that the transition from a train system to electric vehicles is part of a comprehensive development plan aimed at enhancing efficiency and preserving the cave’s environment from emissions and noise.
