Coldest temperature of the year recorded as Jebel Shams drops to -4

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman recorded its lowest temperature of the year so far on Monday, with Jebel Shams registering minus 4 degrees Celsius, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Authority.

The reading was recorded during the past 24 hours by the authority’s meteorological stations, as a cold air mass continues to affect large parts of the country. Other low temperatures included 6.2°C in Saiq, 12.1°C in Muqshin, and between 13°C and 13.6°C across areas such as Ibri, Ibra, Haima, Marmul, Al Qabil, Dhank, Bidiyah, and Yaaloni.

Meanwhile, many parts of Muscat received light drizzles on Monday morning, adding to the chilly conditions that have prevailed in the capital over the past few days. Residents reported cooler-than-usual temperatures, particularly during early morning and late evening hours.

The Civil Aviation Authority said the recent cold spell and intermittent rainfall are part of ongoing winter weather patterns affecting the region, and urged the public to follow official updates, especially in mountainous areas where temperatures are significantly lower.
