Jayasinghe Claims Ghala Golf Championship

MUSCAT: Sri Lanka’s Ruwan Jayasinghe was crowned champion of the Ghala Golf Club Championship 2026 following two days of high-level competition at Gahla Golf Club, in a tournament held with the support and sponsorship of Enterprise Rent A Car Oman, reaffirming the event’s growing stature on Oman’s national sporting calendar.
The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Ambassador Najib bin Yahya al Balushi, Head of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry, and attended by Faiz Mohammed Riyadh, Vice-Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, alongside officials, players and partners, highlighting the championship’s importance and the continued momentum behind the development of golf in the Sultanate.
Over the course of two competitive days, the tournament brought together a wide field of players across multiple divisions in an atmosphere defined by sportsmanship, professionalism and community spirit. The strong turnout reflected the steady growth of golf in Oman and the vital role of private-sector partnerships in supporting the sport at both grassroots and elite levels.
Across the championship, players delivered impressive performances in all categories.
Jayasinghe secured the Champion Golfer 2026 title with a composed and consistent display, while Oman national team player Azzan al Rumhy finished Gross Runner-Up, confirming his status among the country’s leading golfers after a closely contested campaign.
In the remaining divisions, Hussain al Balushi claimed the Senior Champion title, Jameela Daud lifted the Ladies Champion trophy, and Yousef al Rumhy topped the Junior Champion category. Meanwhile, Yousef al Balushi captured the Net-Champion honour.
All winners were recognised during the official presentation ceremony in the presence of the chief guests, Ahmed al Farsi, club officials and Enterprise Rent A Car Oman’s senior management team. The diversity of champions highlighted both the competitive depth of the field and the inclusive nature of the championship.
In addition to the main titles, the tournament featured popular on-course competitions that added extra excitement for players and spectators alike. The Nearest-to-the-Pin challenges, which rewarded precision and composure under pressure, proved to be a highlight across both days.
On Day One, Azzan al Rumhy won the award on Hole 2, while Alao Hakeem claimed Hole 12. On Day Two, Badar al Amri secured the prize on Hole 5, and Karl Armstrong topped Hole 15.
Speaking during the ceremony, Aqeel Bhatti, CEO of Enterprise Rent A Car Oman, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting sport in Oman through sustainable community partnerships, noting that golf’s values of precision, patience and consistency align closely with the company’s philosophy.
Meanwhile, Ahmed al Farsi, General Manager of Gala Golf Club, thanked the sponsor and highlighted the club’s role in hosting major regional events and promoting sports tourism. Established in 1971, the club has evolved into a modern 18-hole facility supporting youth development and national teams.
The successful organisation and competitive standard of the 2026 edition further strengthened the championship’s status as one of Oman’s leading golf events.
