MUSCAT, JAN 22
The Embassy of Japan has conferred the Order of the Rising Sun on Dr Suad al Mudhaffar, founder and principal of Azzan Bin Qais Private School, for her contributions to developing Japanese educational philosophy in Oman and promoting mutual understanding between the Sultanate of Oman and Japan at a ceremony attended by ministerial as well as diplomatic representatives on Wednesday.
The Order of the Rising Sun is Japan's oldest national order awarded to individuals for distinguished service in fields like culture, international relations, welfare, or military achievement, recognising significant contributions to Japan's advancement, with various classes including the Gold and Silver Star.
“I am proud to be presenting the award to Dr Suad, whose contributions have greatly helped the two countries foster their relations and scale newer heights in the bilateral ties,” said Kiyoshi Serizawa, Ambassador of Japan to Oman.
Established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji, the Order of the Rising Sun is the first official decoration of Japan, symbolising the rising sun and a prestigious Japanese honour for long-term, distinguished service and achievement in various fields benefiting Japan.
'This is a great honour, not just to me but also to the nation for its education system, which stands at par with the international standards,' said Dr Suad upon receiving the coveted title.
Dr Rawya bint Saud al Busaidy, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah and late Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy are the previous winners.
Others include Harib bin Abdullah al Kitani (President of Kitani International, former CEO of Oman LNG); Mohammed bin Yousuf al Zarafi; Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi; Salem bin Nasser al Maskari; Mohammed bin Ali al Khusaibi (former ambassador to Japan); and Said bin Nasser al Khusaibi (Secretary-General of Oman-Japan Friendship Association).
