Jebel Shams freezes at -2 as mercury drops across Oman

Muscat: Temperatures across the Sultanate of Oman dropped sharply over the past 24 hours, with Jebel Shams recording the lowest temperature at minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, according to data released by the Civil Aviation Authority.

The authority said the readings were recorded on Thursday by its meteorological stations across the country, as a cold air mass continues to affect the region.

Saiq recorded a low of 6.3°C, while temperatures dipped to 9.9°C in Al Sunainah and 10.2°C in Yanqul. In Buraimi and Mahdha, minimum temperatures stood at 10.5°C and 10.7°C respectively.

Other areas also experienced cooler conditions, with Dhank recording 11.0°C, Hamra Al Droua and Ibri both at 12.1°C, Fahud at 12.5°C, and Bahla at 12.6°C.
