Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority has announced that the Sultanate of Oman is currently being affected by a cold air mass, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures and increased wind activity across most governorates.
According to the authority, the weather conditions began on Thursday and are expected to continue over the coming days, with temperatures forecast to fall further, accompanied by active to occasionally strong winds.
Many parts of Oman, including the capital city Muscat, have been experiencing strong winds since Friday morning, as a cold air mass continues to affect the Sultanate, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures and reduced visibility in several areas.
Data from some meteorological stations recorded wind speeds of up to 31 knots in Ibri, 26 knots in Muscat and Fahud, 23 knots in Mudhaibi, and 21 knots in both Jabal Harim and Haima as of Friday morning.
The Civil Aviation Authority warned that the prevailing conditions may result in reduced horizontal visibility due to blowing dust, rough sea conditions along parts of the coastline, and occasionally strong winds.
The lowest temperature recorded during the past 24 hours was minus 2.1 degrees Celsius at Jebel Shams. Other low readings included 6.3°C in Saiq, 9.9°C in Al Sunainah, 10.2°C in Yanqul, 10.5°C in Buraimi, and 10.7°C in Mahdha. Temperatures ranging between 11°C and 12.6°C were also recorded in Dhank, Hamra Al Droua, Ibri, Fahud, and Bahla.
In a related advisory, the Royal Oman Police urged road users on Sultan Said bin Taimur Road between Haima and Adam to exercise caution due to sand accumulations caused by strong winds, which may affect visibility. Motorists were advised to remain alert and adhere to safety guidelines.
The Civil Aviation Authority said satellite images show dust spreading over southern Iran and the Arabian Sea, moving towards the coastal areas along the Sea of Oman. Northern governorates are expected to be gradually affected, accompanied by reduced horizontal visibility.
