MUSCAT: The Royal Hospital has launched endoscopy and microdissection service for layers of the digestive system.
The service constitutes a milestone that adds momentum to the Sultanate of Oman’s record of medical achievements. It reflects an ongoing trend to enhance the quality of healthcare, improve specialised services and attract the latest advanced medical technologies in the treatment of digestive system diseases.
The event included the handling of two medical cases using modern technologies. The first was the removal of a tumour in the rectum using an endoscopes-enhanced microdissection technique. The second case involved conducting a Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) procedure to treat achalasia.
The service was launched in the presence of Abed Allehibi, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Head of the Gastroenterology Department at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The launch of the service was the outcome of scientific cooperation, exchange of expertise and joint support for advanced clinical practices.
Dr Hisham bin Abdullah al Dhahab, Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology and Advanced Interventional Endoscopy at the Royal Hospital, said, “The launch of this service affirms the hospital’s commitment to adopt precise and safe technologies that keep pace with the best global practices.” Dr Hisham added that the new service would contribute to raising the quality of treatment outcomes, enhancing patient safety and developing clinical performance in line with the health system’s drive towards innovation and sustainability.
He pointed out that the launch of the service stems from the Royal Hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve specialised services, enhance staff efficiency and establish a treatment environment based on quality and excellence, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. - ONA
