Washington - The United States will impose a 10% tariff onimports from eight European countries from February 1, US PresidentDonald Trump announced on Truth Social on Saturday, citingdisagreements over Greenland.
Trump said the tariff will apply to all goods sent to the US fromDenmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, theNetherlands and Finland.
The levy is set to rise to 25% from June 1 and will remain in place' until a Deal is reached for the Complete and total purchase of Greenland,' he continued.
Trump reiterated his desire to own Greenland to guaranteesecurity in the Arctic region.
The US president strongly criticized the deployment to Greenland ofsoldiers from several European NATO countries.
'Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, TheNetherlands, and Finland have journeyed to Greenland, for purposesunknown,' he wrote, describing this as 'a very dangerous situationfor the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet.'
