Omantel tops RO 500 million in investments

MUSCAT: Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) has invested more than RO 500 million in digital infrastructure across the Sultanate of Oman over the past six years, reinforcing the national economy and strengthening Oman’s digital capabilities.
Eng Aladdin Abdullah Hassan Baitfadhil, CEO of Omantel, said the company has evolved into a national platform and a regional technology group, offering services that range from telecommunications and cloud computing to cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data centres and enterprise solutions. He added that Omantel’s strategic investment in Kuwait-based Zain Group has expanded its regional footprint to eight markets, serving more than 54 million subscribers.
Baitfadhil noted that Omantel has kept pace with rapid global advances in artificial intelligence, cloud services, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things, positioning Oman to attract high-quality digital investments and strengthen its role in the global digital economy.
In 2025, Omantel achieved several milestones, including the launch of advanced 5G technology, becoming the first operator in the Sultanate of Oman to do so. This significantly enhanced network readiness for next-generation digital applications. The company also recorded its strongest financial and operational performance, with revenues reaching approximately RO 2.29 billion by the end of September 2025 and net profit rising to RO 243.4 million. Contributions from subsidiaries increased to 22 per cent of group revenues, up from 9 per cent in 2018.
International connectivity remains a strategic priority, he said, transforming Oman’s geographic location into a digital advantage. Omantel is now the most connected operator to submarine cables in the Middle East, with more than 20 cables linking Oman to over 120 cities in 50 countries across three continents.
Baitfadhil added that neutral data centres in Muscat and Salalah have become vital national assets, hosting content for more than 40 global companies, supporting cloud services, enhancing cybersecurity and strengthening Oman’s position as a regional data hub. He stressed that Omantel plays a central role in advancing digital sovereignty under the National Digital Transformation Strategy. — ONA
