Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road 64 per cent complete

KHASAB: The Sultan Faisal bin Turki road (Dibba-Lima-Khasab) in Musandam Governorate has reached an implementation rate of 64 per cent.

Overseen by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, it’s one of the important strategic projects and aims to enhance connectivity between the governorate’s wilayats as well as facilitate transportation, and underpin economic and tourism development.

With a length of 72 kilometres, the road costs RO 151 million and is divided into several sections: the first section is 20 kilometres long, stretching from the Wilayat of Khasab to the Niabat of Lima; the second section is 8 kilometers long, within the Niyabat of Lima whereas the third section extends 44 kilometres from the Niyabat of Lima to the Wilayat of Dibba.

The project involves the construction of approximately 197 concrete stormwater for rainwater drainage. The road has two lanes (one in each direction), each approximately 3.6 metres wide, in addition to 1.5-metre-wide shoulders and earth shoulders for future expansion.

The road begins in the Wilayat of Khasab, cuts through the Niyabat of Lima and ends in the Wilayat of Dibba. It has been designed to withstand severe weather conditions and to accommodate all types of vehicles. The project is expected to significantly cut down travel time between Khasab and Dibba to 55 minutes, and between Lima and Khasab to just 20 minutes compared to the previous travel time of up to two a half hours.

The road will also facilitate movement between the wilayats and Niyabat of Musandam Governorate, serve the villages and communities along its route and open up vast new economic and tourism opportunities in the governorate. — ONA
