Jabal Shams experiences sub-zero temperatures: Met Office

Muscat: Jabal Shams recorded the lowest temperature in the Sultanate over the past 24 hours, with the mercury dropping to -2.2°C, according to data released by the Oman Meteorology Office.

Other locations also experienced notably low temperatures during the same period.

Saiq registered 3.4°C, while Maqshan recorded 9.4°C. Temperatures reached 10.0°C in Haima and 10.3°C in Al Mazyunah, while Yanqul reported 11.2°C.

Further readings showed al Sunainah at 11.4°C, Ibri at 11.8°C, and Thumrait recording 12.3°C. Fahud and Hamra Al Duru both registered 12.5°C during the same period.

Meanwhile, the highest temperatures across the Sultanate were recorded in the southern governorate.

Salalah topped the list with a high of 29.4°C, followed by Taqah at 28.9°C and Mahout at 28.2°C. Both Jaaloni and Al Jazir recorded 28.0°C, while temperatures stood at 27.9°C in Shalim and Sadah.

Additional readings showed Al Kamil Wal Wafi at 27.0°C, Mukhaizna at 26.9°C, Fahud at 26.5°C, and Mirbat recording 26.4°C.

The Met Office confirmed that all temperature readings were taken from its official meteorological stations across the Sultanate.

In its weather forecast, skies are expected to remain mainly clear over most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

However, there are chances of cloud advection and light isolated rain over the coastal areas overlooking the Oman Sea and the Arabian Sea, as well as over the al Hajar Mountains.

The authority also indicated the possibility of late-night and early-morning low clouds forming over parts of al Dhahirah and al Buraimi governorates, which may lead to reduced visibility due to fog formation.
