MUSCAT: The Oman Football Association held a coordination meeting with the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) to discuss the details of Oman hosting the 10th WAFF Men’s Championship, scheduled to take place in August 2026. Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA), welcomed the WAFF delegation, which included Khalil al Salem, Secretary-General, and Abeer al Rantisi, Director of Competitions.
This visit comes as part of a series of coordination meetings between WAFF and the Oman Football Association in preparation for hosting the men’s championship, which is regarded as one of the largest and most prestigious regional tournaments and represents a key competitive platform for national teams.
During the meeting, organisational and technical aspects related to the tournament were reviewed, including stadium arrangements, hotel accommodations, and infrastructure, as well as mechanisms for joint coordination between the two federations to ensure the success of the event, one of the region’s most prominent competitions.


Sayyid Sulaiman emphasised that hosting the tournament represents an important milestone for Omani football and an opportunity to showcase the Sultanate of Oman’s capabilities in organising major sporting events. He stressed the Oman Football Association’s commitment to providing all the elements needed for success, reflecting a shared vision and unified goals to develop football in West Asia.
He also noted that staging the tournament in Oman is part of the close cooperation with WAFF in areas of football development and the exchange of administrative and technical expertise, which will have a positive impact on participating national teams and the region as a whole.
For his part, Al Salem praised the efforts of the Oman Football Association, expressing his confidence that the championship will be delivered to a high organisational standard, given Oman’s strong capabilities and advanced infrastructure, which will help present an outstanding model for hosting the tournament in a manner befitting its sporting history and leading status.
Al Salem added that this step reflects the active role played by the Oman Football Association and reaffirms its firm commitment to supporting the West Asian Football Federation’s journey and strengthening its presence on the continental and international stage. He also commended the close cooperation between the two federations, which represents a key pillar in ensuring the success of this major event.
