UTAS launches the second issue of Horizons

MUSCAT: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has released the second issue of its quarterly magazine “Horizons”, published by the University’s Communication and Media Department.
This comes as part of the UTAS efforts to strengthen its media and knowledge presence, highlight its academic and research achievements, and keep pace with its future aspirations in education, innovation and community service as a leading educational institution and an active partner in achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
The second issue, published in December 2025, features a rich collection of topics, reports, interviews, exploratory articles and analytical studies besides student success stories, scientific and innovative initiatives, as well as specialised topics reflecting the University’s role in preparing national competencies and promoting sustainable development that contribute to enriching discussions on higher education issues and future trends locally and globally.
It also addresses several distinguished academic programmes offered by the University, foremost among them the Bachelor of Applied Biotechnology, which embodies the UTAS orientation toward education linked to scientific research and practical application, and reflects its commitment to aligning educational outcomes with the requirements of sustainable development and modern scientific advances. In addition, the issue reviews the University’s experience in leveraging education and scientific research to employ creative industries within an integrated framework in the era of the purple economy.
In the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, the magazine highlights the experience of the student company “Qushour”, which succeeded in transforming marine waste into a bio-based material used in more than 60 fields a national achievement that reflects the spirit of creativity among the University’s students and confirms the effectiveness of the UTAS supportive environment for entrepreneurship and innovation.
The magazine also dedicates space to discussing the University’s efforts to join the QS World University Rankings, presenting an integrated strategic plan aimed at enhancing the quality of education, developing scientific research, improving academic reputation, and expanding international partnerships, thereby strengthening the University’s competitiveness and its regional and global presence. In addition, the issue addresses the University’s strategy in supporting localisation plans, its mechanisms for qualifying and developing national cadres, and its distinctive initiatives within well-studied and ambitious plans.
The issue includes scientific articles and specialised research studies, including topics on artificial intelligence, data analysis, and the ethics of using modern technologies in translation, along with a focus on the book “Integrating Artificial Intelligence for Business Sustainability: Toward a Shock-Resilient Future” and the book “Human Duties or Rights: Which Comes First?”, in addition to studies in precise scientific fields and intellectual and cultural readings.
The magazine also features a survey on the “Itqan” professional record as a platform for documenting students’ experiences, in addition to presenting several success and creativity stories in the fields of art and photography by highlighting inspiring experiences of university members affirming the UTAS role in nurturing talents and developing skills alongside academic education.
The magazine’s editorial team emphasised that “Horizons” reflects the University’s commitment to providing solid media content that keeps pace with developments in the technical and applied education sector, strengthens communication with the academic community and the public, and aims to be a media and knowledge platform that reflects the University’s momentum and achievements, contributes to spreading scientific culture, enhances community engagement, and highlights the UTAS growing role in shaping the future and building human capacity.
