Ghala Golf Club hosts thrilling finale of GCC junior golf

MUSCAT: The GCC Ladies and Juniors Golf Championship 2025 concluded on Wednesday evening at Ghala Golf Club, under the auspices of HH Sayyid Fahr bin Fatik al Said, following three days of intense competition and high technical standards that highlighted the steady growth of golf across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The closing ceremony saw the crowning of champions across various age categories.
In the Ladies Team Championship, the United Arab Emirates claimed first place with a total score of +7, ahead of Saudi Arabia in second place and Bahrain in third, while Oman finished fourth.
The UAE continued their dominance in the girls under-16 team championship, finishing first, followed by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman.
In the boys under-16 team championship, Qatar secured the title, with Bahrain finishing second and the UAE third, while Oman were placed sixth.
Meanwhile, Bahrain topped the standings in the under-13 team championship, with Oman achieving an impressive second place ahead of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
At the individual level, Jamie Camero of the UAE captured the ladies' individual title with a total of 218 strokes, followed by compatriot Lara Elchaib, while Faye al Balushi finished third. Omani golfer Nada Mir was placed fourth to emerge as the best local player. In the girls under-16 individual category, Anca Mateiu of the UAE claimed first place, with fellow Emirati Sara Abubaker finishing second.
The under-13 individual title went to Omani golfer Yusuf al Ramhy, who delivered a standout performance. In the boys under-16 individual championship, Qatar’s Danil Sokolov secured first place after an outstanding showing.
Speaking after his victory, Danil Sokolov, representing Qatar, said: “The championship was highly competitive and full of challenges. Playing at the Ghala Golf Club gave us valuable experience and I am delighted to win the title against such strong Gulf competition.”
Anca Mateiu, representing the UAE, expressed her delight at winning the under-16 title, stating: “The organisation was excellent and the course was of a very high standard, which helped us perform at our best. This championship is an important milestone in my career.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed al Jahdami, Secretary-General of the Oman Golf Association, highlighted the importance of hosting the event, saying, “We are proud of the successful organisation of this GCC championship, which demonstrated Oman’s readiness to host major tournaments and contributed significantly to developing players’ skills, particularly among the younger age groups.”
The championship concluded with widespread praise from participating delegations for the organisation and technical level, further cementing Ghala Golf Club’s reputation as a leading regional venue for major golf tournaments.
