State Council panel reviews sports authorities draft law

 

MUSCAT: The State Council’s Social and Cultural Committee held its fourth meeting for this year, under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Hajri, chairman of the committee, on Wednesday.

The committee discussed the opinion of the subcommittee formed to study the draft law on sports authorities. The committee has a mandate to study and review draft laws, related to developing the national legislative framework and supporting comprehensive development in the sports sector.

The committee reviewed the objectives of the draft law, which focuses on establishing governance principles in the management of sports authorities and enhancing their administrative and financial autonomy. It aims to ensure increased institutional performance and improved output quality, in addition to supporting sports investment and activating partnerships between the public and private sectors.

The draft law also aims to create a structured legislative framework that provides an attractive and stimulating sports environment for discovering and developing national talent, building a solid sports foundation to enhance the sports presence both locally and internationally.

The committee stressed the importance of the draft law in regulating the work of sports authorities, defining their competencies and powers, and promoting the principles of transparency and accountability to ensure the sustainability of institutional work and raise the efficiency of performance in line with national trends and the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
