IBRI: Nama Water Services is implementing a comprehensive project to establish water distribution networks for Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank in Al Dhahirah Governorate, covering the first and second phases of the initiative.
The project aims to provide safe and sustainable drinking water to all residents while enhancing the water distribution network to meet the needs of a growing population.
It also seeks to strengthen strategic water storage in the three wilayats to satisfy projected demand through 2050. Currently, the project includes 22,000 connections, benefiting over 270,000 people, with the number of connections expected to reach 500,000 by 2050.
The extensive initiative encompasses the construction of 41 underground reservoirs with capacities ranging from 200 to 93,500 cubic metres, alongside 8 elevated reservoirs ranging from 300 to 600 cubic metres.

Additionally, 35 pumping stations with capacities between 4 and 4,936 cubic metres per hour are being installed. The project also involves laying 608 kilometres of water transmission lines and 1,130 kilometres of distribution networks ranging from 110 to 355 mm.
Eng Mohammed bin Harib al Makhmari, project manager, said that the total cost of the project is RO 235 million. Work officially began in December 2024 and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2028.
He added that the project will also create employment opportunities, contribute to Omanisation in supervisory and implementation roles, and generate approximately RO 20 million in business for small and medium enterprises. Additional benefits will extend to the services sector, local industries, community development and asset growth, reflecting the project’s broader economic and social impact. - ONA
