GCC Golf championship witnesses tight contention

The first round of the GCC Golf Championship for ladies and junior categories, hosted at Ghala Golf Club, concluded with closely contested results among GCC national teams, as part of the points accumulation and qualification rounds for the final stages of the tournament, highlighting the steady development of golf across the region.
In the Ladies’ Championship, the United Arab Emirates topped the leaderboard after round one with a score of +2, followed by Saudi Arabia in second place at +42, Bahrain third with +51, while Oman placed fourth at +117, with several rounds still to be played.
In the Girls’ Under-16 category, the UAE continued its strong performance by leading the standings with +1, ahead of Saudi Arabia at +31. Oman finished third with +86, while Kuwait ranked fourth with +87, in a competition that showcased promising technical progress among young players.
Meanwhile, the Boys’ Under-16 competition saw Qatar claim first place with +17, followed closely by Bahrain at +19, with the UAE third on +25. Saudi Arabia placed fourth with +37, Kuwait fifth with +64, and Oman sixth with +70, as expectations rise for an even more intense battle in the upcoming rounds.
Ahmed bin Faisal al Jahdhami, Championship Director, said the first round results reflected the high level of competitiveness among GCC teams,“The performances we witnessed confirm the success of junior development programmes across the region, and the current standings promise exciting and competitive rounds ahead,” he stated.
He added that Ghala Golf Club is fully prepared to host major regional events, reinforcing Oman’s position as a capable sporting destination and a key contributor to the growth of GCC golf.
The championship continues over the coming days, with teams aiming to strengthen their points totals and secure qualification for the decisive final stages of the competition.
