Al Musannah face Al Suwaiq in 2nd division handball

The curtain will fall on the first round of the Oman Second Division Handball League for the 2025/2026 sports season on Tuesday evening, with a decisive encounter bringing together Al Musannah and Al Suwaiq in a highly anticipated match scheduled for at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Rustaq Sports Complex.
This crucial fixture carries significant importance, as it will determine the final two teams to qualify for the second round of the league, alongside Al Amerat Club, which has already secured qualification after topping the standings with eight points, following a series of strong and consistent performances throughout the first round.
The race for the remaining qualification spots remains open among three clubs Mirbat Club currently sits second with four points, level with Al Musannah, while Al Suwaiq occupies fourth place with two points. As a result, the outcome of Tuesday’s match will play a decisive role in shaping the final standings, with all scenarios possible depending on the result.
Al Musannah enters the match aiming to capitalise on its attacking strength and the experience of its players in high pressure encounters, seeking to secure qualification without relying on complex calculations. Meanwhile, Al Suwaiq faces a must win situation, placing its hopes on fighting spirit and defensive discipline in an effort to overcome the points deficit and spring a surprise.
Elsewhere, Masirah Club has already been eliminated from qualification contention after failing to collect any points during the first round, leaving it out of the race for the three available qualification places.
According to the competition regulations, teams level on points are ranked based on head to head results, followed by goal difference in those matches, overall goal difference, total goals scored and if necessary, a draw conducted in the presence of club representatives, match points are awarded as two points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss or withdrawal.
Under the league format, the three qualified teams will compete in a single round robin points system in the next stage, the team finishing first will advance directly to the final, while the second and third placed teams will meet in a one off playoff to determine the second finalist.
Al Amerat confirmed its dominance by defeating Al Suwaiq 32–22 in the final round of the first stage Al Musannah edged Masirah 26–25, while Al Suwaiq beat Masirah 38–36, other notable results included Mirbat’s 24–22 win over Al Suwaiq, Al Amerat’s victories over Masirah 33–18,Al Musannah 37–18 and Mirbat 40–26, as well as Al Musannah’s 31–29 triumph over Mirbat.
All eyes will be on Al Rustaq on Tuesday as the final match promises high intensity and drama, bringing an exciting first round to a close in Oman’s Second Division Handball League.
