Khoula, Al Nahdha Hospitals conduct 313 surgeries

MUSCAT: The Directorate-General of Khoula Hospital announced that it had performed 313 advanced surgeries across various specialties in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
This is part of its efforts to enhance decentralisation and integration in providing specialised medical services.
In the field of colorectal surgery, more than 100 surgeries were performed at Ibra Hospital under the supervision of Dr Rashid bin Mohammed al Alawi, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, in collaboration with a specialised medical team from Ibra Hospital.
In the field of spinal surgery, a specialised national medical team performed 14 emergency surgeries at the hospitals of Nizwa, Al Rustaq, Al Buraimi, Sohar and Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah. This is in addition to three limb reconstruction surgeries using the Ilizarov technique were performed in the hospitals of Ibra, Sohar and the University Medical City, under the supervision of a team from Khoula Hospital led by Dr Sultan bin Saif al Kalbani, Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon.
In the field of vascular surgery, Dr Ahmed bin Salem al Aufi, Consultant Vascular and Trauma Surgeon at Khoula Hospital, performed eight surgeries in the hospitals of Ibra and Sinaw in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.
A specialised neurology team also performed cerebral catheterisation procedures at Sohar Hospital, as part of efforts to bring advanced neurological services closer to patients in the governorates.
Meanwhile, Al Nahdha Hospital continued to conduct a number of advanced surgeries and training programmes across various specialties. In ophthalmology, a specialised team conducted field visits to Khasab Hospital during which the team performed cataract surgeries and trained medical staff. A total of 100 surgeries were performed under the supervision of Dr Haitham bin Salem al Mahrouqi, Senior Specialist in Corneal Transplantation, Cataract Surgery and Vision Correction.
A specialised team from Al Nahdha Hospital also performed eyelid and orbital cosmetic surgeries during a visit to Al Rustaq Hospital, in addition to corneal transplant surgeries in Ibra Hospital, also under the supervision of the same team.
In the field of otolaryngology, 66 surgeries were performed in the hospitals of Khasab, Al Rustaq, Ibri, Sur, Al Buraimi and Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah. These included sinus surgeries, cochlear implants, rhinoplasty, head and neck surgeries, salivary gland surgeries and ear decay treatments.
In the field of dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery, Al Nahdha Hospital conducted a number of visits, consultations and surgeries at various hospitals, including 14 surgeries for patients with disabilities at Sohar Hospital, in addition to specialised consultations and surgical interventions at Khasab Hospital. In the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, eight surgical operations were performed at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah. — ONA
