Muscat, Dec 16
The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oman is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in the landmark 70th year of diplomatic relations. The visit is anticipated to enhance bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities for engagement.
Speaking to the Observer, G V Srinivas, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, said, 'The two leaders have articulated a joint mission document that essentially aligns Oman's Economic Vision under His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik with Prime Minister Modi's vision of elevating India to the status of a developed nation by 2047.'
'Building upon the historic state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India in 2023, the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oman is expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries,” the ambassador said.
During the press conference on Tuesday, the ambassador mentioned that there have been agreements on energy, agriculture, food security, health, defence, security, technology and culture. 'Bilateral trade has increased, and investments between the two countries have been robust. Several joint ventures are operating in both countries. In recent years, both countries have worked closely to enhance maritime security in the Indian Ocean region,' the ambassador stated.
Oman has a vibrant Indian community of over 675,000, who consider Oman their second home and have made meaningful contributions to the nation's development.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will engage in comprehensive discussions with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, reviewing the entire spectrum of the bilateral relationship and exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister is also expected to address business leaders from both countries at a business forum and interact with the Indian community in Oman. A number of bilateral documents are expected to be signed during the visit.
These agreements are currently under negotiation and preparation, and details will be shared once they are concluded at an appropriate time during the visit.
