Rains to continue until Saturday

Muscat: Intermittent rains of varying intensity are expected to continue in Musandam as rainy clouds move into the governorate on Wednesday.

While Muscat experienced active winds on Tuesday, northern governorates are forecast to receive rainfall from Thursday through Saturday, according to weather updates.

A low-pressure system currently affecting Gulf countries is driving active northwesterly winds, which could lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in mountainous and desert areas, weather experts said.

On Wednesday, cloud formation accompanied by rainfall of varying intensity — with thunderstorms at times — is expected over Musandam (10–30 mm) and North Al Batinah (5–15 mm). The weather system may also extend to parts of South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and the Hajar Mountains.

Authorities have cautioned about the possibility of flash floods and active downdrafts.

By Thursday, the impact of the weather system is expected to expand across the northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and parts of the Arabian Sea coast.

Temperatures recorded ranged from a low of 5.2°C in Saiq to a high of 29.6°C in Al Amerat.
