His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conferred Oman Civil Order (First Class) upon António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) during an audience at Al Barakah Palace.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the UN Chief’s distinguished diplomatic and political role, as well as his sustained efforts in supporting conflict resolution and advancing international peace and security.
In his turn, the UN Secretary-General expressed his sincere appreciation for the honour. He also valued the Sultanate of Oman’s constructive and wise diplomatic efforts in backing dialogue and mediation, as well as its contribution to conflict resolution regionally and internationally with a spirit of responsibility and cooperation.


The UN Secretary-General underscored the importance of the continued partnership with the Sultanate of Oman in a bid to serve stability and peace internationally.
The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, Dr Hamed bin Said al Aufi, Head of Private Office of His Majesty the Sultan, Hussain bin Ali Abdullatif, Adviser at the Private Office, Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security and Hans Grundberg, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen. — ONA
