Humanity and nature can flourish together: Oman

NAIROBI: The 7th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held in Nairobi, Kenya, under the chairmanship of Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and President of the Seventh Session, concluded, on Saturday.
The session adopted an ambitious ministerial declaration promoting sustainable solutions for a resilient planet.
The session came up with groundbreaking resolutions addressing the three environmental crises. It focused on three main themes namely strengthening cooperation among multilateral environmental agreements, fostering the link between resilience and justice, and renewing confidence in the UNEP's ability to implement its strategy.
In his address, the chairman of the Environment Authority and president of the seventh session, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the seventh session and the collaborative work of the participating delegations, the Executive Bureau, the Standing Committee of Representatives, and the United Nations Environment Programme team throughout the session.
Al Amri noted that the vision of Oman, which it championed during its presidency of the session, is based on the belief that humanity and nature can flourish together, and that sustainability is a bridge connecting wisdom and heritage on the one hand, and innovation and the future on the other hand.
He underscored that responsibility does not end with the conclusion of meetings, but rather begins with the implementation phase and the transformation of decisions into tangible impacts reflected in ecosystems and societies.
The seventh session, with broad participation from countries around the world, international organisations, and experts concerned with environmental and sustainability issues, marked a significant milestone in the path of global environmental governance. Oman played a great role in leading the negotiations and managing the sessions with high efficiency and consensus.
The negotiations week demonstrated an active Omani presence in shaping international environmental decisions through meetings that discussed progress on climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and waste.
