MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources announced the completion of major maintenance work on four key dams in Muscat Governorate, namely Al Khoudh Dam, Upper Al Sareen Dam (1), Lower Al Sareen Dam (2) and the Al Amerat protection dam (B15) — at a total cost of RO 242,159.

The comprehensive work aimed to restore the dams’ storage capacity of 13.39 million cubic metres, strengthen groundwater recharge, and safeguard villages, farms and infrastructure affected by past climatic conditions.
Tasks included removing silt and trees, repairing structural damage, installing valves and monitoring equipment, cleaning drainage gates, and adding educational and warning signs, all carried out according to the highest technical standards.

Eng Yousef bin Masoud al Mundhiri, Director of the Dams Department, emphasised that periodic maintenance is vital for water security, flood protection, sustainable agriculture and community safety.
He also noted that the dams serve as tourist attractions, showcasing Oman’s commitment to preserving its natural and cultural heritage.
The ministry continues its mission to optimise water resources across Oman, ensuring reliable, sustainable access to water while protecting communities and promoting development. – ONA
