IBRI: The Ministry of Health (MoH) is advancing a series of development projects and service programmes in Al Dhahirah Governorate to improve healthcare quality and expand services for citizens, supporting the goals of 'Oman Vision 2040' for a sustainable and responsive health system.
Dr Ahmed bin Saeed al Kalbani, Director General of Health Services in Al Dhahirah Governorate, highlighted that these initiatives enhance health institution readiness and patient experience through modern infrastructure, high-quality services, and innovative digital solutions that boost performance efficiency and deliver comprehensive care.
Key achievements this year include the establishment of a kidney dialysis unit in the Wilayat of Dhank, the opening of Al Dariz Health Centre in Ibri, and the expansion of the emergency department at Ibri Referral Hospital in collaboration with Petroleum Development Oman and Daleel Company.
A peritoneal dialysis unit was also launched to broaden treatment options for kidney failure patients.

New medical services, including plasma therapy and ultrasound services, have been introduced, alongside 24/7 laboratory and radiology services at Ibri Health Complex and Yanqul Hospital, improving accessibility and response times.
On the digital front, the Directorate has implemented three major initiatives: an electronic retinal examination system for early detection of diabetic retinopathy, an award-winning electronic drug inventory management system, and a national health survey to support future health planning.
Health indicators in Al Dhahirah Governorate have shown improvement in 2025, with early registration of pregnant women rising from 82 per cent to 90 per cent, child anaemia rates dropping from 37 per cent to 26 per cent, and breastfeeding rates increasing from 59 per cent to 62.5 per cent, thanks to intensive awareness programmes.
The Directorate continues to focus on training and qualifying national medical and administrative staff, fostering quality, patient safety, and institutional excellence, while strengthening partnerships with educational institutions in Oman and abroad.

Quality initiatives such as the Breastfeeding Support Team, electronic immunisation registration for health workers, the 'Awn' programme for supporting needy patients, participatory leadership in primary health care, and a community communication service via instant messaging for Ibri Hospital have further enhanced patient experience and service delivery.
Dr Al Kalbani affirmed that Al Dhahirah Governorate’s health system remains committed to continuous development, adopting modern technology, promoting service innovation, and investing in national talent to ensure sustainable, high-quality healthcare that puts citizens first. — ONA
