Oman electricity output up 6.1% by October

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman recorded a 6.1 per cent rise in total electricity production by the end of October 2025, reaching 44,814.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh), compared with 42,255.8 GWh in the same period last year, according to preliminary figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information. The increase reflects sustained growth in power demand across various sectors of the economy.
Net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also rose by 5.3 per cent to 43,532.7 GWh, up from 41,335.1 GWh recorded at the end of October 2024. The data point to continued expansion in electricity generation capacity and improved system performance nationwide.
In contrast, total water production in the Sultanate posted a marginal decline of 0.8 per cent during the same period, falling to around 431,102.5 cubic metres from 434,563.2 cubic metres a year earlier. The figures highlight differing trends across utilities, influenced by regional demand patterns and operational factors.
At the governorate level, Muscat saw an 11.7 per cent drop in water production, amounting to 171,676.0 cubic metres compared to 194,432.6 cubic metres in the corresponding period of 2024. Meanwhile, Dhofar Governorate recorded an increase of 3.4 per cent, with output reaching 63,796.5 cubic metres, up from 61,727.4 cubic metres.
Water production in the remaining governorates rose by 9.7 per cent to 195,630.1 cubic metres, compared with 178,403.2 cubic metres in the same period last year, indicating stronger performance outside the capital region. — ONA
