A spokesperson for the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Republic of the Philippines will be added to the list of countries exempt from tourist visa requirements starting next year, in a move that reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to strengthening international relations and diversifying economic partnerships.
Under this measure, the number of countries covered by the exemption rises to 105 countries around the world, which enhances the Sultanate of Oman’s position as an open and attractive international destination.
According to informed diplomatic sources, the decision comes in the context of the developing relations between Muscat and Manila, with the aim of developing the traditional pattern of relations related to the labor file towards a broader partnership that includes investments, industry, and quality tourism.
The sources explained that concerns about this measure are limited due to the strict procedures imposed by the Philippines on its citizens before departure, including proof of health fitness, financial solvency, flight and hotel reservations, in addition to other requirements that ensure compliance with the laws.
These are procedures that the Sultanate of Oman also appreciates and takes into account for visitors, residents, and those coming to work from various nationalities.
The role of the Oman Visa and Medical Examination Center in Manila, which was launched last July in the presence of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Mahad bin Said Baawain, Minister of Labor, is also highlighted, as it is an integrated center to facilitate and regulate work visa procedures in accordance with work contracts approved under the Omani Labor Law, through biometric registration services, medical examinations, document and work contract authentication, in addition to awareness and support services for workers and employers.
The sources added that this exemption reflects the mutual trust between the two countries, noting the successful Omani efforts in releasing Filipino nationals detained in Yemen, and the broad positive impression it left on the Philippine public.
The Cebu Investment Seminar, organized by the Sultanate of Oman in the middle of this year, also strengthened cooperation opportunities, while its second edition will be held in Muscat next February, which supports trade, economic, and tourism activity between the two sides.
This decision contributes to expanding the base of economic partnerships with friendly countries and opening new horizons for sustainable cooperation.
Diplomatic experts believe that the move comes within the strategic vision of the Sultanate of Oman to enhance its international presence, which supports achieving mutual benefits on the economic and commercial levels, and also contributes to revitalizing tourism.
