Central Bank Of Oman - Omani Riyal Symbol

The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) officially launched the symbol for the local currency, the Omani Rial, during the National Day, which represents a prominent national milestone that embodies the Omani identity and enhances the currency's position in global markets.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Oman said, 'The adoption of a unified symbol for the Rial represents a strategic step that strengthens the position of the Sultanate of Oman as a promising financial hub, and it will contribute to establishing the presence of the Omani Rial on financial, commercial, and digital platforms around the world.'

The Omani Riyal Symbol

The Omani Riyal symbol presents a modern expression of the Sultanate's monetary identity, unifying the visual representation of the national currency across official and financial uses. It reflects a clear direction toward a cohesive visual identity that strengthens the Riyal's presence locally, regionally, and internationally, while supporting its role within Oman's economic landscape

Objectives

The Omani Riyal symbol aims to unify the currency's appearance across all platforms, strengthen its local and international presence, ensure compatibility with modern digital systems, and reinforce national identity while enabling the Riyal to stand out among global currency symbols.

Inspiration

The Omani identity has long been rooted in the Arabic language, which has retained its distinct character and resonance in this land. Drawing from this deep cultural heritage, the design of the Omani Riyal symbol was crafted with the spirit of Arabic calligraphy, reflecting the Omanis' enduring bond with their language. It offers a visual presence befitting the national currency while staying true to its cultural roots
