MUSCAT, DEC 2
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Omani Film Society (OFS), participated in the 43rd Fajr International Film Festival held in Shiraz from November 26 to December 3, marking a significant presence for Omani cinema at one of the region's most prominent film festivals.
The Omani delegation was headed by Mohammed bin Abdullah al Ajmi, OFS Chairman. The delegation included director Mohammed al Kindi, jury member, Dr Jinan bin Mahdi al Issa, guest of honour, and students Habib al Hasani and Hamad al Rashdi, who participated in a film-making workshop aimed at training young people and honing their skills in direction, production and screenplay.
Speaking to the Observer, Al Ajmi said that the participation of Oman at one of the region’s popular film festivals reflects the Society's commitment to enhancing the international presence of Omani cinema and showcasing its growing development.
He emphasised that the Society's participation in the Fajr Film Festival represents an important opportunity to strengthen cultural and cinematic ties, highlight the artistic movement in the Sultanate of Oman, and empower young talents by providing them with exposure to international experiences.
A short film by students of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences won second place in the Talent Camp competition held as part of the festival.
The team consisted of Hamad al Rashdi from the Sur branch, and Habib al Hasani from the Muscat branch.
