The newly inaugurated Consulate of the Republic of South Africa in Muscat is set to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and South Africa, according to officials from the Republic.
In a key milestone for relations between the two nations, the Honorary Consulate was officially opened in Shatti Qurum under the auspices of Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic community.
The ribbon-cutting was jointly carried out by Khalid al Muselhi; Lujaina Mohsin Darwish, Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa in Oman; and Mogobo David Magabe, Ambassador of South Africa to Saudi Arabia and Non-resident Ambassador to Oman.
“The newly opened Consulate will play a pivotal role in strengthening bridges between our governments, supporting business communities, and creating meaningful opportunities in trade, tourism, education and culture. Its opening marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between our two nations,” said Lujaina Mohsin Darwish.
She noted that the consulate will further enhance bilateral cooperation, promote trade and investment, and deepen people-to-people connections. Darwish also expressed appreciation to the governments of both countries for their continued support and reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to fostering shared progress.
Khalid al Muselhi praised the expanding partnership between Oman and South Africa, highlighting the mutual commitment to advancing diplomatic and economic ties.
Ambassador Mogobo David Magabe said the launch of the Honorary Consulate in Muscat and the appointment of Darwish reinforce the growing strength of bilateral relations across diplomacy, commerce and culture.
As part of the ceremony, the official website and social media channels of the Honorary Consulate were unveiled, offering the public enhanced access to services and updates.
The consulate will serve as a key hub for visa and consular services, support South African citizens in Oman, and facilitate cooperation between institutions and businesses in both countries. It will operate from Sunday to Thursday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, at Way No 3017, Shatti Qurum, Muscat.
