Muscat: Oman’s Under-17 national team continued their impressive form in the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers with a dominant 5–0 victory over Nepal at Thuwunna Stadium in Myanmar, in the second round of Group 7 matches. The win puts Oman at the top of the group with six points, ahead of hosts Myanmar on goal difference.
From the opening minutes, Oman imposed their rhythm with clear control of midfield and varied attacking build-up. The first chance came through Mubarak al Amri, who fired a powerful shot in the fifth minute that was blocked by the Nepali defence. The Red Warriors did not wait long to break the deadlock; the opener came in the ninth minute after a cross from the right by Abdullah al Saadi, which a Nepal defender misjudged and sent into his own net.
Oman maintained heavy pressure with confident possession and quick ball recovery. The second goal arrived in the 21st minute through Turki al Ghassani, who capitalised on a brilliant long pass from Muath al Hinai, heading the ball over the goalkeeper before calmly finishing it into the net.
In the 39th minute, Saad al Maamari added the third with a header following a precise cross once again from Al Saadi. The first half also saw rising tension after a series of rough Nepali challenges that resulted in three yellow cards. Oman went into half-time with a comfortable 3–0 lead.
In the second half, Oman continued at the same tempo, with the first chance falling to Saad al Maamari, whose effort went over the bar. Nepal improved slightly in the first 15 minutes as they attempted to push forward, but Oman’s defence held firm and cut off all attempts.
In the 73rd minute, Bashar al Shamsi scored the fourth with a powerful strike after a beautiful through pass from Nammar al Amri, further confirming Oman’s superiority. Oman did not ease off, and Muath al Hinai sealed the five-goal rout in the 86th minute when he followed up a loose ball inside the box after a corner kick and slotted it home comfortably.
With this win 5–0, Oman strengthened their lead at the top of Group 7 and moved a step closer to securing qualification for the AFC U17 Asian Cup finals.
