MANAH: In a scene where the fragrance of history meets the spirit of National Day celebrations, the Oman Across Ages Museum saw the opening of the Royal Automobiles Exhibition on Tuesday, attracting notable official and public attendance.
The opening took place under the auspices of Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah.
The exhibition provides an opportunity to learn about the history of royal vehicles and their national and historical value.
The exhibition showcases a diverse selection of royal classic, luxury and sports vehicles, each carrying memories of national events, landmark occasions, and historic tours within Oman.
Eng Al Yaqdhan bin Abdullah al Harthy, Director-General of the Oman Across Ages Museum, stated that the exhibition features a diverse collection of classic, sports and luxury royal cars. This lends the exhibition a special national dimension due to the place these cars hold in the Omani memory.
He added that these cars were selected based on their historical value and rarity. He affirmed the museum's commitment through this exhibition to provide an engaging and interactive knowledge experience that informs visitors about the historical context of these vehicles. He praised the cooperation between the Oman Across Ages Museum and the Royal Cars Museum, which resulted in the organisation of this exceptional exhibition.
During the opening, several visitors expressed their admiration for the exhibition.
Salim al Rawahi, a visitor from Al Hamra, described the experience as “a nostalgic return to the iconic royal scenes we grew up watching on television.”
French tourist Helene Martin said she was fascinated by “how Oman preserves its automobiles as living heritage, each car feels as though it carries the spirit of its driver.”
The panels with information on each car showcase the story of each car, offering visitors a deeper understanding of its role and context.
Visitors can also take photographs beside some of the most iconic models, prompting many to describe the exhibition as “a gallery of memories rather than a gallery of objects.”
The exhibition runs until December 9, and visiting hours follow the museum’s standard schedule daily from 9 am to 9 pm.
